Books for Wriggly Readers are interactive roleplay books that promote reading with children in a fun and enjoyable way, helping nurture lifelong Reading-for-Pleasure.
They are books that will turn your interactive shared-reading level up a notch, whilst making you rethink what you consider a 'reading environment' to be.
Who says books can't mean play?
Books for Wriggly Readers leave space for interaction, involvement, imagination, and play. They are an enjoyable literary experience for both adult and child. The stories, combined with interactive shared-reading, give you the recipe for rich literary interactions with your early years child, helping them to fall in love with reading and become a lifelong reader.
Who says books are only for when you're snuggled up in bed or sat cross-legged on the floor quietly in front of your teacher?
Okay, we'll put our hands up, these are not necessarily the type of books you read just before bed... although in our house they 100% are! We like to use them as the 'warm-up act' to the bedtime story; an opportunity to 'shake our sillies out' and have one more moment of playtime bonding together before the day ends.
All Children Aged 2-6 (approx)
However, the word 'Wriggly' isn't just chillin' out in front of the word 'Readers' for no reason...
Young children are still developing their impulse control and concentration skills. For some, sitting down for long periods is challenging (This is perfectly NORMAL!).
Furthermore, we ALL have a unique 'Reader Identity' which consists of things like; what types of books we like to read, where and when we like to read, and how we like to read. Every child has individual interests and preferences. For some, reading (or being read) a book, in the conventional manner, before bed just isn't their cup of tea (or hot cocoa).
Books for Wriggly Readers are particularly great for children who like to be active, and whose lack of desire to sit down and read can often leave them being branded 'reluctant readers'. Wriggly Books allow you to change up the reading environment and offer up a different approach to reading. They might just be the right type of book for your child at this moment in their Reading-for-Pleasure journey. Important, as after all...
